Acoustic Guitar Saddle Replacement

When should you replace your acoustic guitar's saddle?
Similar to the nut, the saddle is made of the same materials and can get worn down by the tension of the strings over time, creating notches and altering the string action and intonation.
If the saddle is also loose in its slot, replacing it with one that fits perfectly would be a good idea.
Materials such as bone can also give a better tone and resonance to the instrument, compared to plastic.
Compensated saddles are available, although I prefer to shape saddleds from scratch as I have more control over the intonation.
Acoustic Guitar Saddle Replacement includes the following:
  • Shaping the saddle out of a blank to fit perfectly snug in its slot, following the radius of the fret board (material of your choice)
  • Filing the saddle at each string position to compensate for perfect intonation
  • Final polishing
