Fret Level & Dress (Inc. Standard Setup)

This is one of the most important things you can do to make your guitar play better and feel more comfortable when playing.
Uneven fret height, worn or loose frets, flat spots and sharp ends. All of these are quite common problems, often found even on brand new guitars. Any of these can result in buzzing strings, flat or muted notes, force to set string action too high, making it uncomfortable on your hand and fingers when moving up and down the neck, and can cause intonation problems.
Fret level and dressing includes the following:
  • Inspection of all frets to identify problem spots
  • Tightening the truss rod to achieve a perfectly straight neck
  • Levelling all the frets by sanding with a precision fret levelling beam, followed by sanding with a radius block to match the radius of the fret board
  • Crowning each fret to shape, creating the correct point of contact for the strings
  • Filing and rounding of sharp edges
  • Polishing each fret
